"The First Rivers We Cross" contains a large selection of my early poetry and prose, or my "healing" poetry.  I started writing again after 18 years, my first poem written on the back of a paper napkin while I was incarcerated for six weeks awaiting trial for a crime I was innocent of, accused by someone I held very dear for an insurance scam.  I was found not guilty and released with a clean record, but I had never been through anything like that before...and the sense of betrayal I felt was mind numbing.and I wasn't myself when I came home.  

Poetry was a release for me, it allowed me to express whatever was in my heart, the good and the bad.  Writing was cleansing and allowed me to move beyond the place where I was emotionally and mentally trapped.  This collection of poems, 60 pages are from those early days.  

The poems and prose are divided into Topical Headings.  Some are quite fluffy, others are very dark but there are a few inspirational pieces that gave me strength and hope, actually helping me to keep going.  I hope that others might be moved the same way.  The headings are as follows: Love, Love Lost, Despair, Inspiration, Death, Nature and Narratives and Other Non-Classifiables.

Into every life a little dark must fall, all we can do is try to find our own light and with hands extended make our way through our personal darkness. This little book chronicles one such journey.

A Universe Inversed" was originally contracted to be published by "Language of Souls Publications" a Canadian publisher in the year 2000. I received an advance to complete the manuscript but unfortunately the publisher went defunct before it could be published.  The manuscript sat on my computer for 6 six years.  It's time to put it out here.

It is not a book for those who want sunshine, flowers and languid love poems.  It is a journey down a dark road starting from the house of innocence, meandering through prejudice, intolerance, loss, the hard streets, infidelity, sexual abuse, addiction, jail and more, both from a personal and observational point of view.  But there are some other more cerebral, emotional meanderings too. Fables, contemplations and introspections. But what is most heartening, is at the end of it all, one finds that love, change and growth can sprout from dark, terrible times and experiences like flowers push up from a grave.  Sad but beautiful.
